Paintings Stolen from Canberra Gallery

Thursday July 9, 2009

Two significant oil paintings were stolen from a Canberra art gallery during the weekend, prompting a search to recover them.

The two artworks by David Boyd, each worth thousands of dollars, were stolen from the Aarwun Gallery in Nicholls on Sunday evening.

Police claim that the offenders entered the gallery through the back door.
Gallery owner Bob Stevens says the burglars avoided security cameras and left the other artworks alone.

"The two works are roughly 40 centimetres by 48 centimetres, they're oils on board, both framed, they're from his Children series," he reported.

"They're not huge big works but they are very very popular and they're an affordable size that are well sought after."
