Canberra needs Confidence to Boost Tourism
Wednesday July 8, 2009
Canberra's tourism industry lacks national pride and needs to liaise more with international tour groups, a local tourism advocate claims.
Olive grower and a recent member of the Order of Australia for his services to the tourism industry said for tourism to grow, so does tourism's confidence in Canberra.
"We haven't really been able to attract many international groups, partly because a lot of the people who are the inbound operators can't see how they can send a tour group to Canberra and actually get a percentage out of it for themselves," he told The Canberra Times. "It's a very difficult issue to address."
Mr O'Clery believes that Canberra has the potential to develop tourism by developing its unique characteristics and local produce. Canberra also enjoys four seasons and the seasonal food and attractions that go with it.
