Saturday February 14, 2009
Mawson, Canberra, was under threat on Monday morning when two teenagers were said to have set fire to grass behind its Southland Shops at 10.30am.
The 50m of fire was able to be controlled when the ACT Fire Brigade arrived to extinguish it not long after, and the youth were arrested.
Superintendent Bob Wynn said police were still considering whether to charge the youths.
''This is something that police will not tolerate, and we will act swiftly, utilising a full range of resources and legislative options, to identify and deal with any people responsible for such an act,'' Superintendent Bob Wynn quoted in the Canberra Times.
But he also mentioned in the Canberra newspaper that the ACT police had to consider the event's circumstances before they took any action against the offenders.
