PORT Kembla Golf Club's A Grade pennants side defeated ACT/Monaro rivals Royal Canberra in an inter-district challenge for the third consecutive year on the weekend.

The Illawarra district powerhouse earned the right to challenge their ACT-Monaro counterparts after winning the A Grade pennant championship earlier this year.

Port Kembla's players travelled to Royal Canberra for the first of a home-and-away series earlier this month and won 5-2.

The Port Kembla crew then scored a 51/2 to 11/2 win on their home course to seal the challenge.

Port Kembla has defeated Royal Canberra in the past three challenges.

The team included Dave Tease, Phil Saunders, Jason Ward, Michael David, Chris Barrett, Mark Crossingham and Kevin Dolan-Brown. Peter Kennedy was the manager.

Tease, Dolan-Brown and Ward have played in Port Kembla's past three Illawarra A Grade pennant wins, plus the inter-district challenge victories.
