A prescribed agency within the Commonwealth Government portfolio of the Treasury, the mint is located on Camp Hill near the National Library and between the Old Parliament House and Capital Hill.
The Royal Australian Mint is the only supplier of Australia's circulating coinage. The Australian Coinage Act 1909 put in place the first steps for an Australian coinage. Now the mint is owned by the Commonwealth and independence from the branches of the Royal Mint.
When you're at the mint in Canberra, be sure to visit the Gallery, which has exhibits from the national coin collection and showcases the history of Australian coins, the coining process and observation windows. There are also information panels, interactive monitors and view a theatrette.
