Questacon - the National Science and Technology Centre, Canberra, aims to generate more understanding about science and technology and does so in a fun and interactive way.
To make science a greater entertaining experience, Questacon has a range of exhibitions, performances and programs that travel around Australia for all ages to learn from and enjoy. It also visits very remote places in Australia, including Indigenous communities in the central deserts and up to Torres Strait.
Another objective of Questacon is promoting how important it is to protect the environment by sustainably operating its centre. In 2007 it reduced its electricity by more than 10 per cent, as well as reducing its water and natural gas use as well.
Some of the engaging and educational exhibitions Questacon holds include 'Wonderworks', which invited you to explore the scientific phenomena and asks questions such as why humans invented science and why the world exists as it does - from the motion of a swinging pendulum to the light playing on a hologram.
'Eaten Alive' is another exciting exhibition at the Canberra science centre, providing you with insight into sharks to reptiles and insects. Discover why predators act as they do - why some use camouflage to capture their pray while others use heat or smell to find food.
While you're at Questacon, come and visit its own theatre troupe that perform in each of Questacon's three theatres.
Performances keep you on the edge of your seat as they perform shows on everything from tsunamis to explosions and dinosaurs.
If you want to keep your children entertained in the evening, how about you bring them to Questacon at night? There are two times for tours. One runs from 5pm to 7pm while the other runs from 7pm until 9pm.
Your children will be guided by Questacon's knowledgable and friendly staff through Questacon's galleries and they can use ride the rollercoaster for as long as they can take.
