Cockington Green Gardens is a unique experience that has both spectacular and colourful gardens and finely crafted miniature buildings and replicas of people.
Opened to the public in 1979, Cockington Green Gardens is a family owned and operated attraction dreamed up and created by Doug and Brenda Sarah. It has since become a landmark attraction in Canberra and has been the winner of an Australian Tourism Award as well as many others.
When you're at Cockington Green, you can enjoy the Rose Room indoor exhibition that has the beautifully crafted Waverley - a 34 room Dolls House.
There is also the Original Area to visit that showcases some of the greatest and also unusual architecture styles in Great Britain.
The new International Area that was established in 1988 is not to be missed. The area is a large multicultural display and has over 21 countries represented.
Cockington Green Gardens, Canberra is most renowned for its miniature buildings. Every single one has been hand built and are 1/12th scale replicas of actual buildings in the United Kingdom.
To complement the miniature buildings, Doug and his family have created miniature people made from clay, bisque fired and painted. Many hours of work went into creating these people - not to mention the amount of work that goes into maintaining them such as repainting them every year.
On the topic of miniature, you'll enjoy the Miniature Steam Train Ride. It is a half size replica of a Fowler Cane Loco and operates on a 12" gauge track and has a drive configuration of 0-4-0.
After you've seen the sights of Cockington Green Gardens you can sit down and relax at the Parsons Nose Garden Cafe, or bring a picnic lunch while the children will have fun in 'Playtown'.
