World Environment Day - Canberra

World Environment Day, founded by the UN General Assembly in 1972, is celebrated annually on 5 June to increase awareness about the environment and enhance political attention and action.

The theme for 2009 is 'Your Planet Needs You - Unite to Combat Climate Change' to help encourage nations agree on a new deal at the climate convention meeting in Copenhagen later on in the year as well as helping to decrease poverty and improve management of forests.

This year Mexico will to reflect its growing role in the fight against climate change. However, Canberra will host a range of events on the day that you can attend.
