Canberra art galleries
Canberra has some of the most beautiful art galleries in Australia. No matter if you are an art lover or have only dabbled in it once or twice, there is an exhibition to delight your eyes.
One of the most prestigious galleries in the country, the National Gallery of Australia has its home in the nation's capital.
With a focus on Australian art, including Indigenous art, the National Gallery also has fine international exhibitions with anything from Degas shows to displays of ancient Chinese ceramics.
You will also enjoy the National Portrait Gallery, displaying the human face of Australia with more than 400 portraits of significant Australians. The portrait gallery is also home to some of the greatest art awards in the country including the annual National Photographic Portrait Prize and the National Youth Self Portrait Prize.
If you would like to see some of the most stunning Indigenous art around, take a trip to the Aboriginal Dreamings Gallery at Gold Creek, and to see more local artists' work the Aarwun Gallery, also at Gold Creek, is a treat.
